All weapons held by Wei or dropped nearby will disappear once the event starts but if you manage to park a vehicle close enough (works best at Kennedy Town) you will be able to obtain weapons from the trunk (Tire Iron from most vehicles, Golden Cleaver from the Triad Enforcer Car and finally a shotgun from the trunks of police vehicles if you have unlocked the Trunk Key police upgrade). Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition - XONE - Not a huge graphical upgrade and performance is significantly worse. It is possible to use a melee weapon in the Martial Arts Club and even firearms.
I am almost 10 hours into the game and not a single one in unlocked yet. Though I have to accept it doesn't work for me. If Wei participates in a Martial Arts Club while wearing the Lightning Warrior Outfit, he will instantly loose his sword. It's working for many so it's not a bug imo just some other applications interfering with gog galaxy and it's achievement registering system.

In the case of a heat level, the Marker will disappear from the mini-map and if the player goes to a Martial Arts Club Location, that location will be empty. I have now won a bet on a cockfight and won 50,000 and both of them didnt unlock.
